After years of giving back to the community, residents Bob and Anne Lee recently were recognized with the honor of lighting up the village's holiday tree. Bob and Anne Lee were selected as the ones to officially turn on the holiday tree during the village's annual "Home for the Holidays" event Saturday in downtown Barrington. Village President Karen Darch said the local couple always has contributed and donated to the Barrington community, earning them a village resolution that was approved by the village board in November. "They have many years of philanthropic service to Barrington," Darch said. About 1,000 people attended the local holiday kickoff event, which included visits with Santa, carriage rides, a petting zoo and ice sculptures, village officials said. Reacting to the honor, Bob Lee said the couple has tried to give back to the community since they started living in Barrington in 1979. Their children and grandchildren also attended Barrington School District 220, he said. "It's a wonderful community of giving, and that's what we love. So many good organizations are here to help others," Bob Lee said. "If there's a worthy need, people come together and make it happen."
