A 13-month-old girl died Friday after a man stabbed her at a North Hollywood apartment, Los Angeles police said.
The girl’s mother took her to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Police initially reported that the child died after being thrown out a window, but later corrected that account.
The alleged assailant, a man whose age and identity were not immediately released, also stabbed himself several times and set a small fire inside the apartment in the 13200 block of Vanowen Street about 2 p.m., said Officer Drake Madison, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department.
Madison did not know if the man was related to the victim, or if either person resided at the apartment where the incident occurred.
The man was arrested at the scene and remains in critical condition, Madison said.
