Vernon Hills juggles housing demands with school capacity concerns

A number of proposed housing projects in Vernon Hills have left school district officials uneasy about the possibility of increased enrollment numbers.

One project is a proposed 51-house subdivision called Woodland Chase located at Buffalo Grove Road and Route 45, which has been in the works since at least 2014. More recently, a 67-townhouse subdivision has been proposed on the site of the former Forge Club along Milwaukee Avenue just north of Route 45.

Koch said he's still trying to get the districts to agree. He said the developer has been extremely patient and helpful, but if the issue is ever forced he thinks the other village trustees might approve the project before there's a resolution.

Prairie View 103 Superintendent Scott Warren and Hawthorn 73 Superintendent Nick Brown both declined to comment on their districts' willingness to take the entire subdivision into their attendance area. They also declined to say how close or far apart they are from an agreement.
