The Niles West Auto Competition Club competed in the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Division 3 Summit Racing Series High School Division on Sunday, September 18 at the Lucas Oil Dragway in Indianapolis, IN. Matt Danielak drove the club's 1968 Pontiac Catalina in the time trials but lost in the first round of competition with a reaction time of .080 sec, Dial Time of 15.50 and an Elapsed Time (ET) of 15.94. Javier Pando competed with his 1994 Honda Civic and made it to the semi-finals with four rounds of competition. He received third place out of a 22 car field. His best reaction time was .010 sec, Dial Time 16.80 and an ET of 16.85.
Dial Time is the time in seconds chosen by the driver that the car is predicted to run. Elapsed Time is the actual time. Ideally, in Bracket Racing, the closer the ET is to your Dial Time (without going under), the better. The winner of the race is the one who runs the closest to their Dial Time and has the best reaction time.
