Mundelein Adopts New and Expanded Recycling Program

The Village Board recently renewed the municipal Solid Waste contract with Groot Industries. The new contract, which expires in 2022, lowers collection rates for all single family collection programs, and expands the solid waste and recycling options now in place. Additional disposal options included at no extra charge, include the curbside collection of electronic waste, a food-scrap collection option, and a "limited" weekly collection with an even lower rate.

The current service schedule for Mundelein residents will not change. Residents will continue to receive service on the collection day for which they are currently scheduled. New rates will go into effect on the October, 2016 bills. All residents will soon be receiving a brochure directly from Groot explaining the new pricing and services. Watch for it in the mail.

Please help Mundelein achieve the 65% recycling goal. Recycling approved materials extends the life of local landfills, conserves natural resources, and reduces energy consumption. Recycling significantly reduces waste and protects the environment for future generations. The natural resources on our planet earth are limited so we must make the most to conserve, recycle and reuse whenever possible.

"It is important for Mundelein to take positive steps to preserve our environment because recycling is one of the best ways for all of us to have a positive impact on the world in which we live," Mayor Lentz concluded.
