Loyola forces three critical turnovers in win over Brother Rice

With his team facing one of the top offenses in the state, Loyola football coach John Holecek knew the Ramblers' defense would need to be opportunistic. The top-ranked Ramblers were just that, causing a pair of crucial fumbles and adding a late interception for good measure, to beat third-ranked Brother Rice 48-37 and claim the Catholic League Blue title.

The first big moment in the game came with under a minute remaining in the first half and Brother Rice ahead 23-14 with the ball on its 31. The Crusaders elected to run offensive plays instead of taking the lead into halftime. The Ramblers' defense took advantage. On the second play, Ramblers senior linebacker Mickey Kane exploded off the right side to sack Crusaders quarterback Dino Borrelli, forcing a fumble in the process. Loyola teammate Vito Cannizzaro fell on the ball at the Brother Rice 14-yard line with 15 seconds remaining.
