Recently, Aurora received a new accolade as being the third-best city for Halloween trick-or-treating by SmartAssets. To be sure, this and other recent recognitions have placed Aurora on the radar of many future residents. But one list that I would be elated if Aurora was to appear on is that of the fittest cities of America.
For those who are unaware, the American College of Sports Medicine launched the ACSM American Fitness Index in 2008. It provides a snapshot of the health and fitness status of metropolitan areas across the country in such categories as physical activity; chronic health problems (i.e. obesity rates); built environment, which includes park space; and recreational facilities like ballfields. Annually, the ACSM releases a rankings report where the coveted spot is the No. 1 fittest area in the country. Washington, D.C., has secured this title three years running.
